NDSCS Career Innovation Center – Building the Future of Education and Workforce Training
At Comstock Construction, we’re proud to have served as the commercial contractor for the NDSCS Career Innovation Center (CIC) in south Fargo. This nearly 90,000-square-foot education facility is designed to serve about 2,500 students every year, giving them hands-on experience in fields like construction, health sciences, manufacturing, IT, and agriculture.
Education Construction with a Purpose
The NDSCS Career Innovation Center isn’t just another school building. It’s a regional hub for career and technical education, connecting high schools, NDSCS, and industry partners under one roof. The facility was built to provide flexible classrooms and labs where students can gain certifications and skills that directly prepare them for high-demand careers. This is education construction focused on workforce development, helping create a strong pipeline of talent for the region.
Comstock’s Role as General Contractor
Our role as the general contractor was to keep the project running smoothly from start to finish. With a superintendent and project manager overseeing the work, we coordinated local subcontractors, scheduled trades, and managed quality on every detail. For us, education construction projects like this one are about more than bricks and mortar—they’re about creating spaces that support students, teachers, and communities for years to come.
Designed for Growth and Adaptability
One of the biggest advantages of the Career Innovation Center is its forward-looking design. The first phase included classrooms and labs that meet immediate needs in trades and health sciences, but the building was designed to expand into robotics, engineering, and advanced manufacturing. That flexibility ensures the facility can adapt to workforce demands well into the future.
A Lasting Impact on the Community
At the ribbon cutting, NDSCS President Rod Flanigan captured the spirit of the project perfectly:
“We’re not just cutting a ribbon. We’re opening the doors to opportunity, innovation, collaboration and building the future pipeline, not only for our immediate workforce needs, but also for future North Dakota business and industry leaders.”
Already, the Career Innovation Center is becoming a key part of the community, strengthening the connection between education and employers while making career training more accessible to students across the region.
Building Spaces That Build Futures
For Comstock Construction, being part of the NDSCS Career Innovation Center was an opportunity to showcase what we do best—delivering commercial construction projects that truly make a difference. This facility is more than a building; it’s an investment in students, local businesses, and the future of North Dakota’s workforce.
