NDSCS Entrance Reconfiguration
The NDSCS Entrance Reconfiguration project at the Blikre Activities Center on the NDSCS Wahpeton campus began with a unique request from the athletics department. They needed a dedicated conference room close to their offices, but their only available space was part of the existing entrance vestibule. They weren’t sure if converting that area was even possible—but our team helped make it happen.
Project Overview
The original entrance featured four sets of double doors opening into a large vestibule. While it served its purpose as a high-capacity entryway, the athletics staff needed a more functional use of the space. Their goal was to create a 600-square-foot conference room without compromising the main entrance that students, staff, and visitors rely on.
We worked closely with NDSCS to determine how the vestibule could be reconfigured while still maintaining a clear, convenient entrance into the building.
Space Reconfiguration & Renovation
Our solution involved reducing the entrance from four sets of double doors to two, which maintained the necessary access and convenience for daily use and campus events. With that adjustment, the remaining portion of the vestibule could be enclosed and fully transformed into a new conference room.
This newly created space provides the athletics department with a private, professional meeting area directly connected to the athletics building—right where they needed it most.
Self-Performed Construction Work
Because we self-performed most of the work on this project, we were able to keep quality, timing, and coordination tightly managed. Working within an active campus facility always requires careful planning, and handling the majority of trades in-house helped ensure a smooth, efficient construction process with minimal disruption.
Final Result
The NDSCS Entrance Reconfiguration successfully turned an underutilized portion of the vestibule into a functional conference room while preserving a streamlined main entrance. The project demonstrates how existing space can be reimagined to meet new needs, providing NDSCS athletics with a practical and well-placed meeting space that enhances their daily operations.
