Breaking Ground on The Infinity Center in Breckenridge

Comstock Construction is proud to announce the start of construction on The Infinity Center in Breckenridge, Minnesota—a project that has been nearly a decade in the making and one that carries special meaning for our team and the community we call home.

Located just south of St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, MN, this nearly 90,000 square-foot, $22 million facility will serve as a regional hub for recreation, wellness, and community activity. As the general contractor under a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery method, Comstock has been involved from early planning through preconstruction with ICON Architectural Group and now into active construction.

From Pre-Construction Vision to Groundbreaking Reality

The Infinity Center has evolved over many years through community input, partnership, and careful planning. What began as a smaller concept has grown into a comprehensive, multi-use facility designed to serve both Breckenridge and Wahpeton while supporting long-term growth across the region.

After nearly two years of preconstruction planning, the project has officially moved from planning into construction, with sitework now underway.

Scope of Work

The Infinity Center is designed as a multi-use sports, recreation, and events facility that will support local leagues, regional tournaments, and everyday community use. Once complete, it aims to include:

  • (1) Sheet of ice
  • (3) Basketball courts
  • (4) Volleyball courts
  • (3) Pickleball courts
  • (1) Tennis court
  • Walking track

The facility is designed with flexibility in mind—creating a space that can evolve with the needs of the community over time.

Starting from the ground up, our Civil Construction team has been working to prep the ground for future building.

These early earthwork efforts include:

  • Mass grading and site preparation
  • Soil correction and stabilization
  • Utility groundwork and infrastructure installation
  • Demolition and preparation of the existing structure

These foundational phases are essential to supporting the long-term performance of the facility.

Renovation Integrated with New ConstructionSteel-framed structure of the old Mycogen building as its being renovated to house Sanford's portion of The Infinity Center building.

From a construction standpoint, The Infinity Center is a unique project that brings together civil site development, commercial renovation, and new construction.

Key components of the commercial building side of the project include:

  • Renovating the existing Mycogen building, taking it down to its structural steel frame and rebuilding it with new floors, walls, and roofing systems
  • Constructing a new building addition that will connect directly to the renovated structure, forming one cohesive, modern facility

This approach allows the project to make use of existing infrastructure while delivering a high-quality, updated space.

Self-Performed Tasks

As construction progresses, Comstock Construction will continue to play an active role in delivering the project, self-performing key scopes such as:

  • Precast concrete installation
  • Structural framing
  • Rough carpentry
  • Finish carpentry

With a phased but continuous schedule, work will move steadily from site development through vertical construction and final finishes.

Driving Long-Term Economic Growth

The Infinity Center is also a key driver of economic development in the region.

Besides providing much-needed space for youth activities, local leagues, and community events—helping reduce the need for families to travel outside the area for these opportunities—several other key partnerships are in the works:

  • Sanford Health will rehome their PT/OT and optical services to the center
  • The Breckenridge School District will have access to space for alternative learning programs
  • Plans for nearby childcare development will help address a regional shortage
  • Adjacent 60-acre housing and business development, which could add up to 68 new residential lots

With regional unemployment already low, projects like this play an important role in attracting new residents, supporting local businesses, and driving the long-term economic growth of the community.

An Investment in the Community

The Infinity Center represents more than a construction project—it’s a long-term investment in the future of Breckenridge and the surrounding region.

It’s a place where families will gather, where young athletes will grow, and where the community can come together year-round.

Comstock Construction is honored to be part of bringing this vision to life, and we look forward to sharing continued progress as construction moves forward.
